Dr. Sung Wook Paek is a Visiting Scientist at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in the Engineering Systems Laboratory, part of the Department of Aeronautics and Astronautics, where he also earned his M.S. (2012) and Ph.D. (2016) degrees. Following his graduation, Dr. Paek worked in the battery industry, filing six U.S. patent applications related to algorithms for lithium-ion battery state estimation.
His research at MIT has spanned a wide range of projects—from small satellites (MicroMAS-1) and next-generation aircraft (AACES 2050) to an autonomous semi-submersible platform (PEARL). Dr. Paek’s primary research interests lie in the energy and propulsion aspects of sustainable aerospace systems. He is also a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (now Advance HE) in the United Kingdom.
