Aircraft Certification and Safety Assessment

Aircraft Certification and Safety Assessment

This research investigates current gaps in Aircraft Certification and Safety Assessment to develop an effective hazard analysis approach to prevent flaws from being overlooked during certification. A key focus is aircraft automation and human-automation interaction. This research will develop methods that can be applied to these systems starting in early development when the design may be incomplete and information about the specific design is limited. The outputs of this research will include a specific proposal for the next generation of certification standards, a demonstration of how the new approach effectively addresses flaws that are often overlooked in the traditional approach, and a comparison of the key differences between the proposed approach and the traditional approach.
